Distracted driving is not a new problem, but the increasing use of cellphones and other electronic devices has caused it to grow alarmingly in recent years… and so has the toll it has taken in road accidents, injuries and lost lives. In fact, today as many as one in three accidents involve distracted drivers.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines distracted drivers as those who engage in " any activity that could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving ." And plenty of us fit that description.
Fortunately, there are ways we can reverse the increases we are seeing in distracted driving accidents.
